CVT vs traditional automatic reliability in UAE conditions (6 views)

Been car shopping for about a month now and I keep going back and forth on what type of transmission to go with. Really like the fuel economy of CVTs and how smooth they feel around town but everyone I talk to has a strong opinion about whether they last or not. My brother in law had a Nissan with a CVT that gave him problems around 150,000km and he swears he'll never buy another one. But then I see so many newer cars on the road here with them and they seem to be doing fine. I do quite a bit of highway driving between Dubai and Sharjah for work so whatever I get needs to handle that without stressing out. Been reading whatever I can find about transmission durability in hot climates and came across some detailed technical info on https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/ that actually explains the differences in how they handle heat and stress. Made me realize maybe it's less about CVT vs traditional and more about finding a specialist who knows how to maintain whichever one you end up with. Anyone here have a high mileage CVT that's still going strong? Or should I stick to old school automatic and accept slightly worse fuel economy for potentially better long term reliability? Really torn on this one and it's basically the last thing holding me up from making a decision.
